Quick Tips - Fall '95
Driving around the neighborhood, every yard seems to have piles of tree limbs
awaiting pickup. I guess it's the pruning, trimming, and mangling season again.
If you're like me and don't have a creative eye for landscaping, better hire someone
to do your trimming. Especially in northern states where you actually have something
us Houstonians have only seen in pictures - snow (that's how you spell it, right?), it may
be more logical since you don't want snow sagging limbs to break and damage anything.
But if you're going to do it yourself anyway, look for:
- limbs rubbing your house the wrong way; look more for areas to prune which could cause potential
problems like around gutter areas, phone/electrical lines, antennas, windows, etc.
- areas darkened by overgrowth can be a security hazard especially around garages, entryways,
and playgrounds
- limbs protruding too far into neighbors or common spaces; consider the guy across the street after
a windy day and there's as many limbs in his treeless yard as there are in yours
- also root capping in areas where great root structures may damage your or a neighbor's property
like sidewalks, driveways, or fences
I'm sure there are a ton more reasons to clip your greenery, but these are a few things that come to mind.
